Hey! What’s this? This isn’t the comic you’re use to. Six panels, new characters, different art style, what is this? Well, it’s my new comic, Monster 9 to 5. In a nutshell, It’s about monsters with jobs.
This idea came a few years back. My girlfriend and I were living in a very small, cramped house. I had my computer in the living room were the entertainment center was. By this time Nuglets was just becoming a struggle; I was out of ideas, I couldn’t find the motivation to work on the comic, and well, it just wasn’t fun anymore. One day, when I was trying to slogging through a strip that I was trying to finish, my girlfriend was playing a video game called “GOD OF WAR”. For those of you who don’t know, “God of War” is one of those games in which the player plays a violent adventurer who go’s on quest though caves, dungeons, or castles and along the way kills all manners of creatures, monsters and villains. As I watched her play, It occurred to me, what if these beings that where being slaughtered by the hero weren’t just mindless minions? What if guarding a cave was just their 9 to 5 job? And, if guarding the cave is a 9 to 5 job, what do they do while they’re off work? So as my girlfriend was having Kratos storm though the cave killing minotaurs, I would start shouting “YOU JUST KILLED JOE!!! JOE WAS GOING TO RETIRE IN 4 DAYS!!! HE HAD A PENSION!! HE HAD A PENSION!!!… JOOOOOOOE!” or “BILL!!! BILL WAS ALMOST DONE PAYING OF HIS COLLEGE DEBT!!! HE WAS READY TO GET ON WITH HIS LIFE, AND YOU ENDED IT!!! WHHHHY!!!!!!”… you know, stuff like that.
So it hit me; instead of trying to force out more Nuglets and getting no joy from it,why not do a fun comic about monsters working a 9 to 5 job? So that’s when it all started.
I’ll start this comic on it’s own site in the near future. Anyway, Enjoy.
